Who We Are
Niche Expertise in Seafood Labelling
Orijinal Etiket Teknoloji is a label converter specialised in seafood packaging, based in Türkiye with export reach across EU, Nordic, Canadian and MENA markets.
Using UPM Raflatac cold-chain and deep-freeze grade materials — along with certified equivalent constructions from global suppliers — we produce multilingual, export-ready, regulation-compliant printed labels for:
- Fresh fish (MAP trays, skin-pack, iced boxes)
- Frozen seafood (–18°C and below)
- Processed and smoked products
- Mixed multilingual retail packs
Why This Matters: We are not a generic label printer. Seafood labelling is one of our core technical specialisations — alongside citrus, tyre and barcode blank labels. This focus allows us to understand the real operational risks: labels falling off in cold stores, unreadable lot codes, incorrect FAO area declarations, barcode scanning failures, and costly export rejections.

- Cold-chain appropriate logistics partnerships
- Volume flexibility from 10,000 to 1,000,000+ labels per order
3) Niche Technical Expertise in Seafood Industry
We understand the critical failure points that cause production delays and export rejections:
- Labels peeling in –18°C storage
- Barcodes becoming unreadable after condensation exposure
- FAO area codes fading under ice melt
- Edge lifting during freeze-thaw cycles
- Adhesive failure on wet or icy surfaces
- Non-compliant label layouts triggering customs holds
4) Multilingual and Regulation-Ready Design
Pre-designed templates and custom layouts compliant with EU, Nordic, Canadian and MENA regulatory requirements. We handle the complexity of multilingual labels (English/French/Arabic combinations) with proper font sizing, equal prominence, and cultural sensitivity.

Understanding Cold-Chain Label Failures
7 Technical Reasons Why Seafood Labels Fail
1) Incorrect Adhesive Chemistry
The Problem: Standard acrylic adhesives become brittle at sub-zero temperatures, leading to edge lifting or complete detachment.
Our Solution: Deep-Freeze (DF) acrylic adhesives or low-temperature hot-melts specifically engineered for –20°C environments.
2) Low Initial Tack on Wet or Icy Surfaces
The Problem: Fresh fish packs are often damp or fully wet at the moment of label application. An adhesive not designed for wet application loses grip immediately.
Our Solution: High-tack, wet-surface adhesives with enhanced peel and shear performance.
3) Freeze–Thaw Cycles
The Problem: Product frozen at –18°C, thawed during processing (0–4°C), then refrozen. This causes edge-lifting, bubbling or complete label detachment.
Our Solution: PP Deep-Freeze facestock paired with cold-chain acrylic adhesive designed to maintain flexibility across temperature ranges from –20°C to +40°C.
4) Wrong Facestock for the Surface
The Problem: Different packaging surfaces (PE bags, cardboard boxes, PP trays) behave differently under cold conditions.
Our Solution: We match each surface type with suitable film or wet-strength paper, and an adhesive tuned for that substrate's surface energy.
5) Low Wet-Strength Paper Durability
The Problem: Standard paper absorbs condensation and loses mechanical strength, tearing or delaminating when handled.
Our Solution: Wet-strength reinforced cellulose with polymer barrier coatings that prevent water absorption while maintaining printability.
6) Incompatible Printing Technology
The Problem: Non-freezer-grade thermal materials lead to faded barcodes and unreadable lot codes after cold storage.
Our Solution: Thermal-top freezer-grade films or thermal-transfer ribbon compatible surfaces that maintain print integrity.
7) Poor Rewinding or Liner Breakage
The Problem: Cold temperatures increase liner brittleness. Improper rewinding tension causes micro-cracks leading to label lift-off.
Our Solution: Controlled rewinding tension, climate-controlled storage, and low-temperature resistant liners.
Regulation Compliance
Seafood Labelling Requirements: EU, Nordics and Canada
Seafood exporters targeting multiple regions must navigate distinct regulatory frameworks. While EU, Nordic and Canadian markets share core principles, each has specific requirements affecting label design.
European Union (EU Reg 1169/2011)
Key Requirements:
- Minimum font size: 1.2mm x-height for packages >80cm²
- Mandatory "date of freezing" for frozen products
- Allergen emphasis (bold, colour, or different font)
- FAO area and production method in same visual field
- Clear origin statement and lot traceability
Nordic Countries (Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark)
Key Requirements:
- Enhanced sustainability information (carbon footprint, MSC/ASC certification)
- Recycling instructions mandatory
- Traceability often exceeds EU minimum (batch + vessel + landing port)
- Strong preference for FSC-certified and recycled content labels
Canada (CFIA Requirements)
Key Requirements:
- Mandatory bilingual labelling (English/French with equal prominence)
- Strict barcode quiet zone specifications
- Net quantity in both metric and imperial units
- Country of origin: "Product of [country]" format required
MENA Markets
Key Requirements:
- Arabic/English/French multilingual combinations
- Halal certification display (where applicable)
- Import compliance documentation
- Cultural sensitivity in imagery and messaging
Critical Design Implication: Multilingual layouts require careful space management. FAO codes, production method, and origin information must remain readable after condensation or frost formation — we recommend minimum 8pt font (2.1mm x-height) for these critical fields.
Adhesive Selection Guide
Choosing the Right Adhesive for Your Application
There is no universal adhesive for all seafood applications. Selection depends on temperature, moisture exposure, and surface type.
Application | Temperature | Challenge | Recommended System |
|---|---|---|---|
Fresh Seafood | 0–4°C | Light condensation, wet surfaces | Cold-chain acrylic + PP film (50-80 micron) |
Iced Boxes | 0–4°C | Heavy condensation, continuous water exposure | Wet-surface high-tack acrylic + wet-strength paper (100-120 gsm) |
Frozen Seafood | –18°C and below | Deep-freeze brittleness, long-term storage | Deep-Freeze acrylic + PP film (60-80 micron) |
Mixed Temperature | –18°C ↔ +4°C | Freeze-thaw-refreeze cycles | Flexible cold-chain acrylic + plasticized topcoat |
System Approach: Adhesive selection cannot be isolated. The complete system must account for: (1) Surface type, (2) Humidity level, (3) Storage temperature, (4) Application speed, (5) Required shelf life, (6) Barcode durability requirements. Our engineering approach tests these variables in combination — not in isolation.
